What is "Reimbursement Specialist"?

The Reimbursement Specialist short-term certificate prepares students to work in a billing office for medical providers. The certificate will focus on preparing students to take the national certification examination to earn the credential Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) offered by the American Medical Billing Association (AMBA). Students will be expected to complete a practicum experience to obtain this certificate, gaining work and hands-on medical billing skills.

Program Outcomes

  • Demonstrate the ability to competently perform the duties associated with working in areas of healthcare reimbursement
  • Successfully sit for and pass the examination necessary to earn the credential CMRS, Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist
  • Demonstrate professional behaviors and attitudes consistent with performing tasks related to the financial aspect of healthcare adhering to legal and ethical guidelines
  • Apply principles of effective oral and written communication skills when working with others involved in healthcare reimbursement
