Frequently Asked Questions
If one Sinclair location is closed, are all locations closed?
Due to varying regional weather conditions or other circumstances, it may be necessary to delay or close select locations. All emergency notifications on the web site and college information line will reflect which locations the schedule change will affect.
Closure notifications available from local media will reflect selective closures as follows:
- Sinclair Community College Montgomery County (which includes the Dayton Campus, Englewood Learning Center and Huber Heights Learning Center)
- Sinclair Community College Preble County Learning Center
- Sinclair Community College Courseview Campus Center
If the college is closed, are events in the Sinclair Conference Center canceled?
All conference center events are subject to cancelation at the discretion of the event organizer. If the college closes, the Sinclair conference center will remain open whenever possible. To check the status of a particular event, call (937)-512-3061.
When will schedule change notifications be posted?
The web site and college information line are updated immediately following a decision to modify the college schedule. The media is also notified immediately. The decision to modify the schedule is based on multiple sources of information and will be made as early as possible.
Notifications are also available through text and email alerts.
How does a delay affect my class schedule?
When the college delays opening, classes that have 50 or more minutes of meeting time remaining following the opening time will meet. A two-hour delay in the morning means a 10:00 a.m. start time, since Sinclair begins normal daily operations at 8:00 a.m.
When the college announces a 2-hour delay (opening at 10:00 a.m.), classes that ordinarily meet from 9:00-11:30 a.m. would meet because more that 50 minutes of instructional time (i.e., a full class period) remains.
A class normally held between 8 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. would be canceled.
How does an early closure affect my class schedule?
When administration closes the campus early, all activities should be terminated at the announced time.
What if I am working in a clinical situation and the college announces an early closing?
The faculty chair and/or clinical coordinator must work with the clinical site to dismiss students as soon as possible without compromising patient safety/care. If a closure is announced for 4:00 p.m. and it takes until 5:00 p.m. to ensure the patients will be properly cared for, that is when the dismissal should occur. If everything can be handled by the time of the scheduled closing, students should be dismissed then.
