Young Scholars

Young Scholars began in 1991 as a Saturday morning academic readiness program for under-represented, prospective first-generation college students in Montgomery County, Ohio. Sinclair’s Young Scholars Program has evolved into an enrichment program that prepares students with the knowledge and experiences necessary to be college and career ready upon graduating from high school. The programs provide students the relevant skills and disposition needed for 21st Century college and career opportunities.

 

 

Programming

Young Scholars currently meet throughout the academic year on Saturday mornings for enrichment sessions from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The program focuses on 5 C’s to promote post-secondary access, support, and success: College Preparation; Career Exploration; Cultural Enrichment; Character/Leadership Development; and Community Involvement.

Eligibility

A student is eligible for the program if he or she is a high school student in Montgomery County; is a prospective first-generation college student (parent or guardian has NOT earned a higher-level degree); has a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Location

The Young Scholars Office is located in Building 19, Room 103.
Saturday sessions take place on the downtown Dayton, Ohio campus of Sinclair Community College.
