Sinclair Students Receive Higher Than National Average Pass Rates on Exams

DAYTON, Ohio (07/03/08) – Sinclair surgical technology students achieved a 100 percent passage rate on the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Exam. The exam is administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.

A total of 12 graduates took the exams. The entire class of surgical technology students passed, which is 30 percent above the national average.

“The higher-than-national-average pass rate is an affirmation of the strong curriculum, incredible teaching staff and the relationships with community health care partners,” said Dave Collins, dean of the Life & Health Sciences Division at Sinclair.

Collins cited specific relationships with health care organizations like Premier Health Partners, Kettering Health Network and Children’s Medical Center of Dayton that boosted the division’s programs. All of these organizations receive several graduates from Sinclair each year.

Surgical Technologists perform as a sterile member of the surgical team. They assist surgeons by setting up sterile supplies, passing instruments and maintaining the sterile field for surgical procedures.

Sinclair’s Surgical Technology program has been offered since 1983 and more than 209 students have completed the program.
