What is the program about?
This certificate will provide students with a broad overview and understanding of issues, practices, policies, and programs in homeland security. Students will have the opportunity to learn about intelligence gathering, threat assessment, risk analysis, critical incident management and first responder applications at a local, state, and national level.
- Demonstrate a proficient use of technology and information literacy fundamentals, and apply comprehensive knowledge specific to the Criminal Justice profession and the processes involved in responding appropriately to assorted scenarios, writings, projects, and assessments.
- Demonstrate knowledge of pertinent local, state, and national homeland security applications including intelligence gathering, threat assessment, risk analysis, and first responder applications.
- Demonstrate a sense of values, citizenship and community and work effectively independently and collaboratively with diverse populations in adverse conditions. Develop team building skills through criminal justice professionalism.
Career opportunities include but are not limited to private security agencies, retail and banking agencies, Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA), state emergency management agencies, first responder agencies and other state and federal agencies.
