Sinclair Community College and the Computer Science and Information Technology Department are proud to host the campus Cyber Defense SCIF learning lab for the benefit of new and continuing students as they prepare for careers in the challenging and dynamic field of Cyber Security.

The Sinclair Center for Cyber Security is located at Sinclair’s Centerville campus in Room 107. The center is an integrated learning environment that facilitates hands-on learning for assignments and projects in cyber defense, networking, desktop, and advanced server systems. The center accommodates a dual network setup allowing for connection to the main campus college network for normal student classwork and a second isolated network with private internet connection. The second network allows for safe research, testing, assessment and cyber team events without risking the integrity of the main campus network. Equipment in the center is as follows:

  • Thirty rack mounted enterprise class Dell and HP server systems
  • Two powerful Dell VRTX blade center chassis with 8 server blades
  • EMC SAN storage array
  • Enterprise level Enterasys and Cisco networking switches and routers
  • Twenty six powerful HP desktop systems connected to both networks
  • Twenty open chassis desktop systems to allow students to build, reconfigure and experiment on the isolated network
  • VMWare software on the desktops and VMWare ESXi on the server blades
  • Two 65 inch smart panel displays that can display and share information from any system or device in the lab.

The center provides an environment in which students can compete in local, regional and national events such as the Cyber Defense League as well as serving as foundation for outreach to local and regional high school students to facilitate their participation in the Cyber Patriot and other programs. The Cyber center can also host students from local school systems in career exploration events to create awareness and excitement about the field of Cyber Security and related technology careers.
