Date: Apr 04, 2025 - Apr 06, 2025
Campus: All Campuses
Location: The Hub at the Dayton Arcade
DataFest is a data analytics competition for college students presented by the American Statistical Association (ASA) and hosted at individual colleges and universities across the globe.
Details and registration here: https://forms.office.com/r/rmwAEywbWY
DataFest 2024 Video student experiences here: https://sinclaircc.hosted.panopto.com/Panopto/Pages/Viewer.aspx?id=56760229-f9d4-42c7-8965-b195013a5bf7
How it works:
An organization with a challenge or problem to solve has volunteered a large data set for analysis, which is kept secret until the day the competition begins. On a Friday at 5pm until Sunday at 5pm - under the guidance and mentorship of local data experts - teams of 3-5 students work together to analyze the data, draw conclusions, and create a short (2-4 slides, 5-10 minute), recorded presentation that tells the data story. Winners are announced the following week and prizes distributed at an evening awards dinner.
The event includes a combination of onsite/in-person and offsite/remote activities over 48 hours. You can bring your own team of 3-5, or ask to be placed on a team. The competition is open to current Sinclair students and not limited to any specific program. Each team should include participants with skills including data analysis, data visualization, data storytelling, and very importantly - communication and presentation skills. Advanced skills are not necessary; commitment and enthusiasm are.
