The Appalachian Community Update meeting are designed to discuss cultural, historical and current events focusing on the Appalachian Heritage. The meetings serve as a way to share information and provide support for the community and educational initiatives. Students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to attend.

Our guest speaker will be Charlotte Rehmert, MSc Counseling. Ms. Rehmert grew up in Big Stone Gap, VA and is Lebanese Appalachian. Her family members were merchants in the coal mining towns around Harlan and Hazard. She has a fascinating story to share about her heritage and the blending of her family's homeland within the Appalachian culture.
