By weaving the story of James Baldwin into a narrative about the Black experience today in America, Eddie Claude challenges us to find our better selves, individually and collectively. This book is not a biography of Baldwin in the literary sense. Instead, the book permits us to see today through the eyes of Baldwin as he struggled with both the trauma he and the nation had experienced and the grit he demonstrated just to survive. It allows us to see the interconnectedness of history using the Civil Rights Movement as the backdrop.
PRE-REQUISITES: Participants to do 1 of the following:
Book discussion facilitated by Vonya Lewis-Thornton, Professor, History
