Time: 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Campus: Dayton
Location: Building 7 Tartan Marketplace, Conference Room 7006ABC
Join Sinclair’s Chief Diversity Officer, Michael Carter, for a discussion and showing of two short documentaries on DeFord Bailey.
Bailey was the first African American performer to appear on the Grand Ole Opry show. He was an influential harmonica player in both country and blues music and was one of Grand Ole Opry’s most popular early performers. In Nashville, he was often referred to as the "Harmonica Wizard".
Bailey’s career at Opry ended in 1941, over licensing fees, when he became collateral damage in a “copyright war” between the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and Broadcast Media Incorporated (BMI).
