By the late 1880s, Dayton was heavily involved in Ohio’s early industrialization. David Sinclair, General Secretary of the Dayton Y.M.C.A., knew that vocational education was essential to meeting the needs of a rapidly advancing job market. His motto “Find the need and endeavor to meet it” was continually practiced by what would become Sinclair College and encouraged more equitable solutions into the 20th century.
In this presentation, Sinclair Archivist & Records Manager, Shelby Beatty, will highlight David Sinclair and college growth to meet community needs. She will also discuss women’s involvement, their commitment to the community, and how they helped shape our modern institution.
