Dayton, OH May 14, 2014 – The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) has announced their postseason baseball awards, as well as the 2014 all-conference team.
The OCCAC Player of the Year is Mitch Roman (FR/Hamilton Southeastern H.S. – Fishers, IN) Shortstop from Sinclair Community College. Mitch put up great numbers this year for the #3 ranked and OCCAC conference champions. He batted .400 in conference with a .671 slugging % while driving in 25 runs and stealing 12 bases. Overall, he had equally impressive stats with a .398 batting % and .624% slugging. Mitch drove in a total of 57 runs to help Sinclair to dominate every series and a 44-9 overall record.
Sinclair Starting Pitcher, Carlos Pena (SO/West H.S. – Columbus, OH) earned Co-Pitcher of the Year. Carlos battled his way to a 4-1 conference record with 4 complete games. His 42 strikeouts in 37.1 innings pitched ranks him among the best in the conference along with his 1.93 ERA.
Joining Mitch and Carlos with all-conference honors, Pitcher Pat Boyle (SO/Valley View H.S.) along with Infielder Taylor Huebner (SO/Piqua H.S.) and Outfielder Taylor Montgomery (SO/Springfield H.S.) all earning all-conference.
Leading Sinclair to a #3 NJCAA Division II National Ranking and another OCCAC Conference Championship was the 2013-14 OCCAC Coach of the Year Steve Dintaman.
