The Sinclair Men's and Women's basketball teams hosted Edison on Wednesday, February 12 at the gymnasium in Building 8 on the downtown Dayton campus. The men's team prevailed to beat Edison 87-79, while the women lost 93-60. Details of each game are provided below.
Sinclair finishes off the season at home with four home conference battles in a row. The next home game will be on Saturday, February 15 when they face Columbus State at 2:00 p.m. The men's game will follow at 4:00 p.m. All home games are held at Sinclair Community College in the gymnasium in building 8. Play By Play: Sinclair's Women vs. Edison
The Sinclair women's basketball team (12-14, 4-4) hosted Edison (14-5, 5-3) on Wednesday. Edison's sharp shooting proved to be too much for Sinclair and they fell to Edison 93-60.
Edison started out with a 1-0 lead due to an administrative technical foul on Sinclair. After Edison's 5-0 run in the first minute and a half of play, O'Sha Owens got things going for Sinclair when she hit a three.
Alex Catron gave Sinclair the first lead of the game with an outside jumper and 11-10. Edison quickly regained the lead after Catron's jumper when Brooke Richards hit a three putting Edison up 13-11.
It was a very close first half which led to a tie ball game going into halftime 30-30. O'Sha Owens led Sinclair with 10 points and 3 rebounds in the first half. With 9:30 to play Sinclair trailed 19-13. Breanna Ball hit a three and Sinclair trailed 21-15 with 8:19 to play. Edison shot 50% from three point range.
O'Sha Owens hit a three with under 4:00 cutting Edison lead to 30-22 and was returned by an Edison three by Brooke Richards putting them up by eleven. Breanna Ball was fouled and went 2-2 from the line cutting Edison's lead to 34-24 with under 3:00 to play. Edison took a 43-24 lead going into the half. Edison shot 50% from three point range. Leading scorer for Sinclair in the first half was O'Sha Owens with 10 points.
The first half got off to a slow start for Sinclair as Edison went on a 13-3 run in the first 8 minutes. Breanna Ball was fouled and went 2-2 from the line and Sinclair trailed 58-29. Ashley Morrow hit a jumper and Sinclair trailed 64-31 with 10:30 remaining.
Ashley Morrow hit back to back shots with under 4:00 to play and Sinclair trailed 83-48. Ashley Morrow hit another three followed by a Sakia Prude steal which she took to the basket and Sinclair was then down 85-55.
Although Sinclair had a surge of offensive success, Edison's offensive attack throughout the game proved to be too much for Sinclair. Edison stifled Sinclair 93-60.
Play By Play: Sinclair's Men vs. Edison
The Sinclair Men's Basketball team (19-6, 4-4) hosted Edison (0-14, 0-8) on Wednesday evening. After a rough road stretch of three losses, Sinclair hoped to bounce back as they returned home to conclude the season with five straight home games.
After a slow start, both Trace Cureton and PJ Weaver hit open jumpers to cut the Edison lead to 1 (18-17). PJ Weaver got the alley-oop jam from Deiontay Walters to tie the game at 19-19 and bring the crowd to life. PJ Weaver put on a show in the first half as he scored 16 of his game 25 points to give Sinclair a halftime lead 41-37.
PJ Weaver was back at it again in the 2nd half as he drove to the bucket to push the lead back up to 4 (56-52) with under 13:00. After a foul and a technical on Edison, Sinclair converted both the and one and both technical free throws to extend the lead to ten point (62-52). Conner Myslowski hit a three with 3:30 left to play and Deiontay Walters hit a jumper as Sinclair went up 83-72 with less than 2:00 remaining.
