Sinclair Community College and Ohio Living Expand Culinary Apprenticeship Program

Sinclair Community College and Ohio Living are celebrating the expansion of the culinary apprenticeship program that was launched last year. Caleb Hollister of Trenton is the second apprentice to participate in the program.

On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, Caleb signed his apprenticeship agreement during a special recognition event at Ohio Living Mount Pleasant in Monroe. As a Food Service Manager Apprentice, Caleb will take college courses at Sinclair Community College while gaining valuable on-the-job training at Ohio Living.

“Strong partnerships allow Sinclair Community College to strengthen its efforts to provide the essential education and hands-on training students need to succeed on the job,” said Chad Bridgman, Director – Sinclair Community College Office of Work-Based Learning. “Sinclair Community College is proud to partner with ApprenticeOhio and Ohio Living as we work together to build a skilled workforce.”

Apprenticeships are a “learn-while-you-earn” model that combines on-the-job training, provided by the employer that hires the apprentice, with job-related instruction provided by Sinclair.

“Caleb has been a valued member of the Ohio Living Mount Pleasant team for four years and during that time, he has shown a passion for culinary services, a tremendous work ethic, and an enthusiasm for providing exceptional service to our residents,” added Stan Kappers, Executive Director – Ohio Living Mount Pleasant.

“When Sinclair Community College and Ohio Living announced this apprenticeship program last year, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. I am looking forward to building my skills while doing something that I love,” said Caleb Hollister, Food Service Manager Apprentice.

Sinclair Community College’s Apprenticeship Program officially launched in the 2018 Spring Semester. Sinclair is one of only 10 Ohio Community Colleges to be awarded a U.S. Department of Labor grant (via ApprenticeOhio), affording the opportunity to offer an apprenticeship program managed by a community college.
