Sinclair Community College and The President's Club of Dayton: 34 Years of Transformative Support for Students

Sinclair Community College is proudly recognizing The President’s Club of Dayton for its 34 years of unwavering support of students. Since 1990, The President’s Club of Dayton has awarded nearly half a million dollars in scholarships to more than 60 full-time students pursuing degrees at Sinclair, providing them with life-changing opportunities to achieve their academic and career goals.

This year, the recipients of these prestigious scholarships will be honored at the President's Club of Dayton Annual Citizen Legion of Honor Award Luncheon. The event will take place on October 3, 2024, from 10:30 am to 1:15 pm at the Dayton Convention Center.

The President's Club of Dayton's commitment to education began with the establishment of its first scholarship in 1990, named in memory of Virgil C. Kitchen, a former President of the Club who dedicated many years of service to the organization. This legacy continued with the introduction of three additional scholarships in honor of Mildred C. “Millie” Sadauskas, who served as the organization’s administrative secretary for over 30 years before retiring in 2013, Robert T. Leibold, a two-time President and one of the longest-serving volunteers in the organization’s history, and Phillip L. Parker, a Past President and active volunteer since the early 1980s.

“Sinclair Community College is incredibly grateful to The President’s Club of Dayton for its dedication to nurturing future leaders. These scholarships have had a profound impact on the lives of Sinclair students, enabling them to pursue their educational dreams and build successful careers,” said Dr. Zachary J. Beck, Chief Development Officer – Sinclair Community College Advancement Division.

This year’s luncheon will also recognize Thomas J. Lasley, II, Ph.D., as the 73rd recipient of the region's 2024 Citizen Legion of Honor Award. Dr. Lasley, Professor and Dean Emeritus at the University of Dayton School of Education and Health Services, has made significant contributions to education and policy advocacy. He currently serves as the Director of Policy and Advocacy for The Montgomery County Educational Services Center and Learn to Earn Dayton. Dr. Lasley holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from The Ohio State University.

The Citizen Legion of Honor Award, established in 1951, is the oldest and most prestigious recognition of volunteer servant leadership in the Dayton region. This award highlights individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to community service, reflecting the values and mission of The President's Club of Dayton.
