Sinclair Expands Aviation Maintenance Program to Meet Rising Industry Demand

Sinclair Community College is expanding its Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program to address a growing national and regional shortage of skilled aviation technicians across the commercial, cargo, and defense sectors.

Over the past four years, enrollment in Sinclair’s AMT program has surged by roughly 280%. Backed by strategic industry partnerships, college officials project continued annual growth between 15% and 25%.

"Sinclair is directly responding to critical workforce needs by providing high-quality, hands-on training that positions students for immediate success," said Dr. Rena Sebor, Provost at Sinclair.

Key highlights of Sinclair’s AMT program include:

  • High Earnings Potential: Graduates typically secure starting salaries between $55,000 and $70,000.
  • Fast-Track Certification: Students can complete the program in 18 to 24 months and qualify for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification.
  • Proven Student Success: Sinclair students achieved a 98% pass rate on the FAA exam.
  • Prime Location & Hands-On Experience: Located at Dayton International Airport near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the program offers real-world training with operational aircraft, turbine engines, avionics systems, and modern maintenance technology.
  • Direct Career Pathways: Partnering with aerospace industry leaders, including Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC), the college connects students directly to career opportunities in commercial airlines, defense operations, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities.

Designed to accommodate traditional students, military veterans, and working adults, the program features flexible scheduling, stackable credentials, and multiple entry points throughout the year.
