Sinclair Receives Better Business Bureau 2014 Community Honor Award

Sinclair Community College received the Better Business Bureau's fourth annual Community Honor Award at the BBB's Eclipse Integrity Awards celebration on Tuesday, May 13 at Sinclair Conference Center.

In 2011, the Better Business Bureau created the Community Honor Award, which was established to honor an organization with a proven commitment to improving all aspects of life in the Miami Valley. It spotlights the honoree's efforts to realize not only its own mission, but its role in making the Miami Valley a thriving community, taking care of its citizens – individuals and organizations. The honoree enhances the Miami Valley marketplace by offering its own tangible and intangible resources, making a positive impact on the evolution of the Miami Valley and the betterment of its people and industries. It demonstrates a passion for and progress towards improving the quality of life. This honor is reserved for an organization, which has shown stamina, steadfast determination and truly innovative ways of giving back to the community.

For more than 125 years, Sinclair Community College has strived to help individuals turn dreams into achievable goals through accessible, high quality, affordable learning opportunities. Over the last five years, Sinclair has awarded more degrees and certificates than any other community college in Ohio. It not only offers degrees and certificates, it also provides workforce development training, strengthening our local marketplace. As it prepares 20,000 students with skills necessary to succeed in the workplace, it's guided by four core strategies: quality, accessibility, sustainability and community alignment. Driven to give back to the communities it serves through its staff and students, it supports community projects through its Service Learning organization, its staff volunteer their time and talent to a variety of community activities and it sponsors community events by providing meeting spaces and monetary support.

John North, president and CEO of the BBB serving Dayton and the Miami Valley, shared, "Sinclair Community College is a well-respected organization in our community. Through its higher education opportunities, thousands in the Miami Valley are able to receive the skills they need to succeed. It has been a positive element in our community for more than a century and your Better Business Bureau is thrilled to recognize its dedication to its students and the community. It sets the bar for other community colleges locally and across the nation."

"Sinclair is very proud to have been named the recipient of the Better Business Bureau's 2014 Community Honor Award," Sinclair President Steve Johnson said. "This college's mission since its founding over 127 years ago is to 'find the need and endeavor to meet it.' We are deeply humbled by the confidence and support we receive from our community and are committed to providing the training and education needed to advance our local economy. Thank you very much to the Better Business Bureau for this honor."

The Eclipse Integrity Awards are sponsored by many local organizations, including The Dayton Power and Light Company; WesBanco Bank, Inc.; Back To Business IT; WDTN-TV; Cox Media Group Ohio; and Clear Channel Media and Entertainment.
