Sinclair Softball closes out a very successful second season

Dayton, OH May 13, 2014 – The Sinclair softball team (24-14, 6-6) entered the District G NJCAA Regional tournament coming off a nine game win streak and their first post-season win since the program was brought back last season from a 21 year hiatus.  They played in a one game playoff against Jackson College on Friday, May 2 for the final spot in the District G NJCAA Regional Tournament.  After winning the playoff game on Friday against Jackson, Sinclair received the sixth seed in the regional tournament but lost 5-3 to the third seeded and eventual Regional runner-up, Lansing CC (30-16, 14-2) on Wednesday, May 7.  Sinclair then had to face fourth seeded Muskegon on Thursday in the consultation bracket where Sinclair lost 4-1 to finish an impressive second season. 

Sinclair finished this season with a 24-14 overall record and a 2nd place conference finish at 6-6.  Madison Monnin (1B/Fresh. – Versailles H.S., Versailles, OH) was named OCCAC co-player of the year as well as all-region XII honors.  Monnin completed her first season with 54 hits, 14 doubles, 7 triples, 8 homeruns, 51 RBI's, and 48 runs.  She also finished with a .454 batting average and a .492 on base percentage.  Sinclair finished 3rd in the nation blasting out 28 triples on the season.  This was a season of many firsts for the Sinclair Softball team since the team was reinstated after a 21 year hiatus: first post-season win (Sinclair defeated Jackson College in a one game playoff to advance to regionals), first time defeating Owens since the program was brought back (Sinclair was 0-7 going into the second game of the doubleheader on April 19), first time sweeping a conference foe in a doubleheader (defeated Lakeland on April 26 17-5 in game one and 18-5 in game two) and first time being ranked in the NJCAA Division II Softball poll (#20 on March 26th).
