What is the program about?

Computer Support Technicians provide first level support for users on computers, software, mobile devices and other devices connected to a network. Students will learn to provide technical support and problem-solving of operating systems, computer networks, software applications, and will utilize interpersonal communication and customer service fundamentals. Students will have the opportunity to earn A+ certification, Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certifications and customer service certification in specific courses in the curriculum.

Program Outcomes

  • Utilize application software and data management skills.
  • Apply appropriate customer service skills in a variety of settings (face-to-face, telephone, online).
  • Assemble commonly required components and install them in a standard desktop computer to bring system to basic operational level.

Career Opportunities

Program prepares students to for entry-level positions as computer support technician, desktop support technician, IT help desk technician/representative, customer support specialist, technical support specialist, or IT service desk specialist/technician.

Credentials

While not required, students will have the opportunity to earn A+ certification after completing CIS 2731, Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certifications after completing BIS 1230 and BIS 1260, and customer service certification after completing BIS 1400.
