What is the program about?

The theater technology degree is designed as a university-parallel program for students to transfer to four-year institutions. The faculty and staff are theater professionals with extensive experience in design and technology including: scenic, lighting, costumes, props, make-up/hair, sound, directing and stage management. Curriculum is based on skills required to enhance students technical skills including: stage craft, lighting and costume fundamentals, make-up, stage management, script analysis, and portfolio. Successful students achieve real-world experience participating in our theater productions in several performance venues. Students must pass all THE courses with a grade of C or better. As part of this degree program, students must complete the requirements of the Ohio Transfer 36 in order to graduate.

Program Outcomes

  • Demonstrate competency in analyzing and researching the script and taking the script to stage and differentiating major periods in theatre history.
  • Demonstrate competency in the area outside the Major field of study.
  • Demonstrate competency with the basic skills needed in theatre technology as a technician or crew member, and how to present these skills

Career Opportunities

Employment opportunities are available in areas such as designer, technician, director, educator, stage manager, arts administrator and company business or artistic manager. These positions can commonly be found in theatre, film, theme parks, cruise ships, rock shows, museums, churches, or fashion. A theatre technology degree also provides the skills to enrich any career that requires artistic research, safety troubleshooting, management, and creative problem solving.

Transferability

Completion of this program guarantees completion of the Ohio Transfer Module (OTM). OTM courses are guaranteed to transfer to any public institution in Ohio on a course-by-course basis or in total.Formal articulation agreements with other colleges and universities indicate how Sinclair programs and courses will transfer to other institutions.
