How to Apply

Once you have reviewed the study abroad programs and planning page, follow the instructions below to complete the application process.

Step 1: Determine Eligibility

To be eligible to participate in a Sinclair study abroad program, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a student of Sinclair Community College when applying.
  • Be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0.
  • Be in good disciplinary standing regarding Sinclair’s Student Code of Conduct and Academic Integrity Policy.
  • Be at least 18 years old when the program begins.

Step 2: Apply

Only complete the study abroad program application, if you have a particular program in mind. If you have general interest or would like more information about studying abroad, please visit the Office of International Education (10-303). 

Complete the application and upload your essay directly into the application.  Your essay should be approximately 450-500 words, covering the following questions:

•Why do you want to study abroad and what led you to make this decision? If you faced any challenges in making this decision, what were they?

• What are your academic goals for study abroad? How will this study abroad impact your academic and future career goals?

• What are your personal goals for studying abroad? What do you hope to gain from this experience and what do you think will be the impact of your experience abroad?

• How will you prepare for your study abroad experience?

Step 3: Deposit

At the time of application, students need to pay a non-refundable deposit either online , or to the Bursar’s/Cashier’s Office located on the 1st floor in Building 10, room 16. We strongly encourage you to keep your receipt. Deposit amounts can vary from year to year, and from program to program. Check with the Office of International Education to confirm the deposit amount for the particular program. The deposit will be applied to the total cost of the program.

Step 4: Scholarships and Financial Aid

If you receive federal financial aid, it may be possible to use these funds towards a study abroad program that awards academic credit. To discuss this possibility, schedule an appointment with a Financial Aid officer. 

DO NOT APPLY IF YOU ARE NOT CONFIDENT THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO COMMIT TO PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAM AND TO MAKING PAYMENTS BY THE DEADLINES.
