What is the program about?
The Greenhouse Technician Certificate will equip students with basic knowledge of plant science that is used for the growth, development, and utilization of cultivated plants. This knowledge will allow the students to propagate plants, implement sustainable landscape design, understand the science of soil, and will ultimately enable the student to operate and manage a greenhouse.
- Apply the knowledge of structures, crop selection, and growing systems in a working greenhouse setting.
- Apply the fundamental principles and techniques of production for horticultural crops requiring limited space in an urban environment with a focus on sustainability.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the horticulture profession including its role and importance in the current job market. Specific skills in the area of Urban Horticulture will be highlighted.
Graduates of the Greenhouse Technician Certificate program are employable as entry-level positions in the nursery, landscape, or agricultural industry. Instruction and practical application of learned skills provide a broad occupational background that appeals to prospective employers.
Potential articulation agreements with Ohio State University, Central State University, and Wilmington College are in process.
The Greenhouse Technician Certificate prepares students for certifications in the Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association.
