K-12 Outreach

The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics division strives to develop connections with area schools in order to foster a better understanding of engineering technology education opportunities. In addition to participating in various high school events, the STEM division also participates in the following K-12 Outreach activities:

Air Camp:

The Aviation Technology department participates in the annual Air Camp summer event. Air Camp is a week-long summer camp to introduce middle school students to the world of aviation. As noted on their website, www.aircampusa.com, the purpose of Air Camp "is (to) inspire students to new heights of scholarship, leadership and citizenship while they experience the thrill of flight and study the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) of aviation and aeronautics.

FlexFactor:

Through a consortium of higher education institutions, Sinclair College is working to address the need for a more highly skilled workforce; one that is adaptive, technical, and that has automation-era skillsets. The FlexFactor program, by NextFlex, is the collaborative technology and entrepreneurship program, funded by the Department of Defense, that will allow youth to discover the value of a career in advanced manufacturing.

A 5-8 week program that immerses high school students in the world of advanced manufacturing and encourages them to consider a career in STEM!

FlexFactor is a guided curriculum that can be embedded into any academic classroom, with support provided by a FlexFactor Project Manager and industry partners.

To request more information about introducing FlexFactor into your school or community,
