CAT 1812 NCCER Construction Craft Laborer Level 1B

Orientation to the skilled trade of Construction Craft Laborer. Topics covered include basic employability skills, material handling, craft laborer trades, building materials, properties of concrete and its handling and placement, site layout, and foundations and slabs-on-grade. This course utilizes NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) core curriculum. One classroom, two lab hours per week.

Outcomes

  • Utilize NCCER core curriculum.
  • Discuss opportunities offered by the construction trades. as well as critical thinking and essential problem-solving skills.
  • Describe proper material handling procedures, including any associated hazards.
  • Understand the history of the trade, describes the apprentice program, career opportunities, and the needed skills and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate understanding of associate building materials, fasteners, and adhesives used in craft laborer trades. Discuss the methods of squaring a building.
  • Describe the properties and different types of concrete, procedures for estimating as well as testing and curing. In addition to safety procedures for handling and using associated tools.
  • Demonstrate the principles, equipment, and methods used to perform differential leveling.
  • Demonstrate basic site layout safety, tools, and methods. Including layout and construction of deep and shallow foundations and forms.
