CAT 1814 NCCER Construction Craft Laborer Level 2B

Orientation to the skilled trade of Construction Craft Laborer Level 2B. Topics covered include introduction to construction equipment, rough terrain forklifts, oxyfuel cutting, elevated masonry, working from elevations, and the workers' role in the green environment. This course utilizes NCCER (National Center for Construction Education & Research) core curriculum. One classroom, two lab hours per week.

Outcomes

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the green environment, construction practices, and building rating systems. LEED v4 with emphasis on standards for building design and construction.
  • Utilize NCCER core curriculum.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of different types of construction equipment used as a construction craft laborer. This includes aerial lift, skid steer loader, electric power generators, compressor, compactor, and forklift. This will also include a general overview of safety procedures.
  • Demonstrate use of forklifts on construction sites including lifting, transporting, and placing various types of loads. Also includes a general safety overview.
  • Demonstrate safety requirements for oxyfuel cutting, and identifies oxyfuel cutting equipment and setup requirements. Explain how to light, adjust, and shut down oxyfuel equipment. Perform basic cutting techniques.
  • Describes how to work safely and efficiently on elevated structures; how to maintain a safe work environment, ensure protection from falling, and how to brace walls from outside forces.
  • Explain the use of fall-protection equipment. Covers safety precautions related to elevated work surfaces.
