CAT 1822 NCCER Carpentry Level 1B

Orientation to the carpentry trade, introducing floor systems, wall systems, ceiling joist and roof framing, building envelope systems, and basic stair layout using NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) curriculum. One classroom, two lab hours per week.

Outcomes

  • Use NCCER core curriculum for course.
  • Demonstrate framing basics and the procedures for laying out and constructing a wood floor using common materials.
  • Demonstrate basic procedures for laying out and framing walls. Includes the procedure to estimate the materials required.
  • Understand types of roofs and demonstrate instructions for laying out rafters for various roof types.
  • Understand the concept of the building envelope and explain its components. Describe types of windows, skylights, and exterior doors. Provide instructions for installation.
  • Understand types of stairs and common building code requirements related to stairs. Techniques include measuring and calculating rise, run and openings.
