CLT 2733 Lab for Special Staining in Histology
This course will provide instruction on the use of special stains within the histology laboratory. Topics include: nuclear and cytoplasmic staining, carbohydrate and amyloid tissue, connective and muscle tissue, nerve tissue, microorganisms, pigments, minerals, and cytoplasmic granules.

Outcomes
- Describe the basic laboratory techniques used in the histology laboratory, including: special staining.
Identify the preferred stain for various tissue types.
Identify principles and procedures of histological processing to include sources of error and clinical significance of results.
- Describe the basic instrumentation used for special staining in the histology laboratory.
Identify problems encountered when using the microtome or cryostat in histopathology.
- Demonstrate an awareness of the proper procedures to protect self and the environment in a healthcare setting.
