Outcomes
- Illustrate the microscopic structure of enamel, dentin, dental pulp and periodontal tissues and summarize the structural changes that occur in disease states and through the aging process.
- Summarize the histologic events involved in tooth development from the formation of the dental lamina through tooth eruption.
- Describe the structural components of epithelium, connective, muscle and neural tissues and compare the organization of each to its function.
- Distinguish among the various types of cells, epithelia and connective tissue found in the oral cavity in terms of structure, function and distribution.
- Describe the embryological development of the structures of the head and neck and illustrate the formation and maturation of the stomodeum into the components of the oral cavity.
