ECE 1402 Healthy & Safe Environments CDA Preparation

Issues related to the health, safety, and nutrition of young children birth through age five including licensing rules and state standards. Information relating to positive interactions that support the optimal growth and development of young children. This course includes additional materials and assignments related to the preparation for the Child Development Associate Credential (CDA).

Outcomes

  • Describe strategies and practices in securing a safe environment for children, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Locate and discuss existing licensing rules, regulations, state program standards, and mandates concerning health, safety, and nutrition.
  • Observe and evaluate dietary guidelines and how nutritious foods are essential in healthy growth and development.
  • Identify the role of educator in promoting nutrition, activity and movement, and wellness in the young child.
  • Identify potential threats to children and related emergency procedures (ex., child abuse, communicable diseases, first aid, CPR).
