GEO 2600 Geography Capstone

A capstone learning experience integrating and extending classroom study through guided research and/or portfolio development. The capstone experience demonstrates mastery of entry-level workplace competencies in geography and geospatial fields and should ideally occur during the last semester of the student's program. Students may select topics for independent investigation and synthesis, applying geographic methods and theory through effective communication.

Outcomes

  • Synthesize knowledge and skills from the Geography curriculum in a consolidated summative project.
  • Design and execute a guided independent or collaborative research project or portfolio demonstrating mastery of key geography/geospatial methods and competencies.
  • Work effectively with spatial data, practicing collection, analysis, interpretation, and application to generate evidence-based conclusions.
  • Communicate effectively in written, visual, and/or verbal formats.
  • Reflect on the capstone experience and critically connect geographic knowledge and skills to the current project and future transfer and career pathways.
