GLG 1201 Historical Geology
The Earth in space, physical evolution of the oceans, atmosphere and continents, origin of life and its evolution, physical and biological development of the North American continent. Lab component stresses further application of scientific method and problem solving. Three classroom, two lab hours per week.

- Describe the sequence of events and observations that led to the development of this theory and become familiar with its applications and its supporting evidence.
- 1) Describe the basic processes and sequence of events that led to the formation of the North American Continent and the current geographic distribution of continents and oceans. 2) Describe the appearance, diversification and extinction of major phyla.
- Describe various ways in which the study of Historical Geology impacts human activities and how it is important to daily life.
- Relate the Theory of Plate Tectonics to Earth history, such as the changing positions of the continents and the development of mountain belts through geologic time.
- Describe the basic processes and sequence of events that led to the formation of the Earth, its continents, oceans and atmosphere. Also describe the development of early life.
