This course covers an introduction to cooling and air distribution systems, basic copper, carbon steel, and plastic piping processes, and soldering and brazing. One classroom, two lab hours per week.

Explain fundamental operating concepts of the refrigeration cycle and identify both primary and secondary components found in HVACR systems. Demonstrate understanding of principles of heat transfer and pressure-temperature relationships of refrigerants.
Explain factors related to air movement and its measurement. Demonstrate understanding of required mechanical equipment and materials used to create air distribution systems for both hot and cold climates.
Identify types of copper and plastic tubing and fittings used in the HVACR industry and how they are mechanically joined, assembled, and installed.
Safely utilize equipment, techniques, and materials used to join copper tubing through both soldering and brazing.
Identify various carbon steel piping materials and fittings. Understand how to join and install threaded and grooved carbon steel piping systems.
