JPN 2201 Intermediate Japanese I
This Intermediate Japanese I class aims to promote students to attain a higher level of Japanese proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the cultural context. This course will focus on competency in contextual readings and character writing skills while continuing to enhance listening and speaking skills.

Outcomes
- Comprehend straightforward statements in face-to-face conversations and simple instructions, directions, or messages when conveyed in the vocabulary at intermediate levels. Students are able to use contextual clues as well as properly ask their interlocutor for repetition or rephrasing.
- Understand text in a familiar format such as in a weather report or a social announcement and on the subjects relevant to the students. Comprehend the content by Kanji compound words and with contextual clues.
- Compose paragraphs or a passage consisting of simple sentences expressing topics which are highly predictable content areas and personal information by properly using the combination of hiragana, katakana, and Kanji in approximately 100-150 words.
- Be able to successfully manage a few simple communicative tasks when conversing on concrete topics in forthright social situations.
- Understand the Japanese social and cultural context and be able to appropriately utilize language skills and pragmatic aspects in international and intracultural communication.
