RET 1101 Respiratory Care Fundamentals I
Respiratory care theory, physical assessment, equipment and skill development of procedures required for clinical practice, including vital signs, isolation precautions, body mechanics, respiratory vitals, airway management, oxygen therapy, humidity and aerosol therapy, medicinal therapy, bronchoscopy and charting. Four classroom, three lab hours per week.

Outcomes
- List the indications, contraindications, physiological effects and hazards of medicinal gas therapy, oxygen and humidity therapy and medicinal drug therapy and discuss applications of each device by patient condition/disease.
- Discuss respiratory care theory as pertinent to isolation techniques, body mechanics, patient assessment, respiratory vitals and chest radiographs.
- Describe and demonstrate appropriate airway management including intubation/extubation, suctioning, tracheostomy care and resuscitation bags.
