RET 1201 Respiratory Care Fundamentals II
Respiratory care theory, equipment and skill development of procedures required for clinical practice, including fluidics, hyperinflation therapy, Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV), bronchopulmonary hygiene therapy, arterial blood gas puncture and analysis, pulse oximetry, electrocardiographs (ECGs), capnography, home care, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and smoking cessation techniques. Four classroom, three lab hours per week.

Outcomes
- List the indications, contraindications, physiological effects and hazards of dependent positioning and turning, postural drainage and percussion, HFC/O and HFCWO, mechanical insufflation-exsufflation, PAP adjuncts, and cough techniques and discuss the appropriate application of each for specific patient conditions and/or disease entities.
- List the indications, contraindications, hazards and techniques employed for arterial blood gas puncture and analysis, pulse oximetry, ECGs, fluidics, capnography, non-invasive ventilation, smoking cessation, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, and delivery of respiratory care in non-acute care settings.
- List the indications, contraindications, physiological effects and hazards of incentive spirometry, IPPB, and IPV therapy and discuss the appropriate application of each for specific patient conditions and/or disease entities.
- List the indications, contraindications and hazards for non-invasive ventilation and discuss the appropriate application for specific patient conditions.
