VIS 1440 Sound Design
This course will introduce students to the technical aspect of recording and editing audio. Students will learn about best practices in capturing audio, industry standard hardware, and editing professional audio for output.

Outcomes
- Students will understand and apply industry standard audio editing software by including cleaning up recording in software. Students will combine multiple audio recordings to output a professional finished recording with an understanding of compressions, peaking, and correct decibel level for each track. Students will consider how sound shapes the story.
- Students will understand and apply audio recording best practices including signal-to-noise ratio, peaking, distortion, and low signals. Students will understand and apply different microphone styles for various applications. Students will understand industry standard resolution and file types including sample rate and bit depth.
- Students will understand industry standard hardware for recording audio including cables, connectors, and audio interface.
